In cases of disc degeneration, to clarify that the pain originates from the disc, a contrast agent is injected into the problematic disc's interior while the patient is in a prone position, as seen in X-rays. During this procedure, the patient is asked if they feel pain due to the pressure of the contrast injection. If there is pain, the diagnosis is confirmed. Additionally, the spread pattern of the contrast agent provides insights into the degeneration. It is primarily a diagnostic procedure.
This procedure is performed under surgical conditions, monitoring all vital functions, with the patient under sedation, and using an imaging scope.
