The procedure is carried out in a supine position. Using a radiofrequency needle, three nerves causing pain in the knee are desensitized by entering the upper inner, upper outer, and lower inner regions of the knee.

This procedure is performed in operating room conditions, monitoring all vital functions, under sedation, and with the assistance of fluoroscopy or ultrasound imaging.
