Administered in a prone position in the lumbar region, this procedure is performed at a minimum of three levels. During the procedure, a radiofrequency generator and an associated electrode are utilized. The needle is inserted near the nerve causing pain in the joint, initially providing stimulation to pinpoint the nerve's location. Subsequently, radiofrequency waves generate heat in the tissue, desensitizing the nerve.

This procedure is conducted in surgical conditions, monitoring all vital functions, with the patient under sedation and using an imaging scope for visualization.
