Administered in a prone position, the injection can be done either through the midline or, in cases of lumbar herniation, by the compressed nerve. The goal is to relieve the nerve by delivering a small amount of cortisone to the point where the nerve is under pressure within the epidural space.

This procedure is performed under surgical conditions, monitoring all vital functions, with the patient under sedation, and using an imaging scope.
