Injection Treatments

With this treatment, necessary medications are directly delivered to the source of pain or the surrounding nerves. The most commonly used medications in this approach are steroids (corticosteroids) and local anesthetics. This treatment aims to alleviate pain in compressed nerves, joints with inflammation due to osteoarthritis, or sensitivity resulting from strain. It is frequently applied in cases of knee, hip, shoulder, and lumbar osteoarthritis, as well as herniated discs, and its effects are often observed shortly after.

Another pain treated with injection therapy is muscle spasms. In these cases, a trigger point injection is administered into the relevant muscle, injecting a local anesthetic into the areas causing contraction to induce muscle relaxation.

Epidural Steroid Injection Epidural steroid injection involves injecting corticosteroid and sometimes local anesthetics near the nerves in the back or neck regions. This treatment is applied to reduce inflammation and alleviate pain caused by conditions such as herniated discs, nerve compression, and spinal stenosis.

Caudal Epidural Steroid Injection Caudal epidural steroid injection involves injecting corticosteroid medication from the tailbone region into the epidural space. The goal is similar to regular epidural injections but targets different areas. Regular epidural injections are administered into the back or neck region, impacting the nerve roots around the spinal cord. Caudal epidural steroid injections aim to affect the sacral spinal nerve roots and the sciatic nerve by injecting into the tailbone region.

Trigger Point Injection Trigger point injection involves injecting a local anesthetic and sometimes corticosteroid medication into painful areas in the muscles, known as trigger points. This injection aims to relieve pain caused by contracted and sensitive muscle fibers.

Why is it done? Trigger points can develop in muscles due to tension, repetitive movements, injury, or stress. These points are believed to trigger spasms in the muscle. The tense muscle fibers in trigger points have less blood flow compared to normal muscle tissue, leading to muscle contraction and pain. Trigger point injections are used to relax these contracted muscle fibers and reduce pain.

How is it done? Trigger point injections are typically performed in the doctor's examination room. Before the procedure, the patient is positioned appropriately. The injection site is cleaned with an antiseptic solution. Then, a local anesthetic is injected into the areas with trigger points.

This is a simple and quick procedure, but the patient may need to rest and be monitored for a short time afterward. Mild relief may be felt at the injection site, and the effectiveness of the treatment can increase over time.

Intra-articular Injections Intra-articular injections involve directly injecting medications into the joint area. These injections are performed to treat or alleviate symptoms of various joint conditions.
